Stephanie's Approach

One of the most important factors in therapy – perhaps the most important – is the relationship between the therapist and the client. A caring, respectful and trusting relationship is essential to healing. I am committed to providing you with a safe environment that will encourage honesty and exploration.

I use a dynamic blend of psychotherapy methods and approaches based on your needs, preferences and strengths. You may benefit from developing skills, drawing from behaviour therapies (cognitive behaviour therapy, dialectic behaviour therapy, mindfulness), and we will build on your strengths. Or you may be on a journey of self-exploration with no end goal in mind. I am trauma-informed, solution-focused and promote self-compassion. We examine your unique circumstances and desires to ensure we use the best approach for you.

Whether you are experiencing anxiety or depression, transitioning to a new stage or way of life, recovering from trauma or loss, or experiencing illness, pain, anger, low self-esteem, or challenges in relationships, I work with you to find a way forward. I provide services to youth (age 12+) and adults of all cultural, racial, sexual, gender and religious identities.

I believe my relaxed demeanour and balanced approach, which blends unbiased encouragement with firm support, allows my clients the space to feel comfortable and respected.

For some people, applying creativity and art is helpful and adds to insights and healing. Creating art images may be recommended if you wish to investigate more challenging or persistent problems and access parts of the self not as readily available through verbal language. Creating art images may be particularly useful in processing trauma, grief and loss, or significant life transitions. Art creation can also be helpful in expressing and reinforcing behaviour therapy skills and strengths. There is no right or wrong way to make art in art therapy, and together we interpret the images to gain new insights.
